Silver Anniversary
25 Years

2011 is our 25th Anniversary!

We are extremely proud (and a bit surprised...) to be still going 25 years since we opened the doors of Plas Bodegroes in August 1986

In that time we have served around 600000 dishes, and I reckon I have cooked about 40000 portions of monkfish!

When Gunna and I first saw Plas Bodegroes in April 1985 after two years or so of combing North Wales for the right place, we both had the feeling that there was something special and welcoming about this lovely house. It took almost 18 months to put everything into place - purchase, planning and conversion, but we finally got the doors open on August 14th 1986. I have to admit that I really didn't have a clue what I was getting Gunna and myself into, but we were fortunate that some kind guests showed faith and came back to give us another chance.

When I look back over the menus we have served over the past quarter of a century, I see some dishes which are still going strong, and some which i think it would be fun to revisit. So in this anniversary year we will be having a retro look and including some dishes from each of the 25 years we have been here, to see how they stand up to today's food and whether they can rekindle some happy memories in returning guests!

Here are a few:

Sushi and sashimi of salmon with beetroot pickle (1986)

Seafood tagliatelle with wild garlic (2002)

Rosemary kebab of mountain lamb with griddled veg and cous cous (1991)

Barabrith and butter pudding with whisky and raisin ice cream (1989)
