We were a group of 14 adults and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The house is beautiful and incredible kitchen and dining facilities make self catering a joy. The garden and grounds are impeccable with amazing variety of lovely roses surrounding the house. All bedrooms are en suite with baths and showers and useful mixture of doubles and twin rooms.Beautiful house in excellent location to explore local beaches and attractions such as Portmeirion. We would thoroughly recommend this house for a fun holiday.

Beautiful house with stunning gardens. Lots of space for people to gather together but equally plenty of rooms for people to have some quiet time. Kitchen was well equipped to cater for large numbers. Simon was a friendly and responsive host. We have rented large houses four times for big birthday celebrations and this was by far the best house.

The most stunning place to stay.We hired the house for a family 80th birthday and were pleasantly surprised with the venue. The house and grounds are beautiful. We were greeted by the owners who went above and beyond to welcome us.We are considering re booking it was so lovely there. A stunning building and grounds. Certainly worth visiting again.

A great place to stay in a beautiful part of Wales, the property is very spacious and well presented and didn't feel cramped with 22 of us staying for a long weekend. Will hopefully visit again in the summer months to make the most of the grounds and beaches close by.

We had a fantastic time at Plas Bodegroes celebrating our friends’ 40th. Chris was very welcoming and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Plas Bodegroes is beautiful and we were lucky that the weather enabled us to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine in the glorious and extensive garden. We would definitely come back for another stay!

21 of us stayed here for a 50th birthday celebration weekend. The house itself is fabulous with everything we could need for our stay. Comfortable double/twin rooms all en-suite were spotlessly clean. Comfy sofas and cosy areas to relax in and a huge dining table that seats about 24. The best bit for us though was the kitchen. It has been designed so that everything is to hand and made cooking for such a large group easy. We had a rather large food delivery just before we arrived and that was kindly put away for us. Chris gave us a tour of the house when we arrived but then left us to it and because everything was fabulous we didn’t need to contact him again , although he is very close should you need him. We did a few walks and visited a nearby beach in the day but the evenings were spent in the house as it really was so enjoyable to spend time there. I really would recommend this place for a large group booking. Definitely a 10/10 from me and my friends.

We have just returned from our extended family get-together and we loved our time at this beautiful property. It was very clean, comfortable and spacious, with a very well equipped kitchen; large dining room and lounge areas; en-suite bedrooms; and the landscaped gardens were a beautiful backdrop for our stay.Chris was a very responsive and helpful host, both before arrival and during our stay, and we have already passed on the house details to friends as we definitely recommend it!

We came as a large group for a surprise 50th birthday party, and the venue went down a treat!! An absolutely beautiful house, with incredible land and surroundings. Chris greeted us at the property, and gave us a great welcoming and everything you could ever possibly need was provided for us. The only downside about the experience is that we didn’t book for longer! Would absolutely recommended, and will hopefully be back to visit again. Thanks again for making a special weekend so memorable.

Had a wonderful stay here for a special family occasion. All the bedrooms were spotlessly clean, the kitchen had every conceivable appliance you may need and the house as a whole is just beautiful - as are the grounds. Chris was there if needed (and had been very helpful before we arrived) but otherwise left us alone. On Chris's recommendation we used Steve from Penlan Catering for our celebratory meal and we can thoroughly recommend him too! Absolutely 5 stars all round!!

As a large family of 18, we wanted somewhere special to stay for my father in laws 80th birthday and Plas Bodegroes definitely did not fail.Right from booking, the owners were really helpful and sent lots of useful information. When we arrived, we were given a tour of the house and we were just blown away. The house is honestly just incredible. Each of us had our own room and ensuite which was brilliant for some time away from everyone. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the little things you'd never think of packing and had us all wishing it was ours.Highly recommended to anyone, we'd love to come back again. Thanks so much 😊

Stayed at Plas Bodegroes for long weekend for our daughter’s 40th birthday. 10 adults and 2 kids 7 and 4. Couldn’t be happier with the stay, accommodation, grounds, facilities and location. Wonderful and comfortable bedrooms and lots of living space. Fabulous kitchen that allowed us to cater for celebration meal with everything needed on hand. Quality equipment and gadgets aplenty. Lovely owners who showed us round and then left us to it but we’re close enough if we needed anything but we didn’t.Would highly recommend for large groups or families for a fantastic get together.

I have to admit that I knew nothing of the Llyn peninsular before our visit, and I was really impressed with everything - stunning beaches, charming little towns both coastal and inland - lush green scenery. But what was the icing on the cake was Plas Bodegroes - a stunning house, bursting with charm and personality. House and location both highly recommended.

We were lucky enough to stay at Plas Bodegroes while it was still a hotel but when I tried to book again found it was now a beautiful country house with 10 en-suite rooms .We gathered a group of 16 family and friends and have had a fabulous May Day bank holiday weekend .All the bedrooms rooms are extremely well appointed . The lounge , dining room and kitchen are spacious , well equipped and welcoming .The Verandah and courtyard give covered areas to have a moments peace or areas to haveoutside drinks .We were lucky enough to be there when the extraordinary wisteria was in full bloom and made the gardens truly memorable .I’m sure we will be back !!

We booked as a family. It was for my son’s 21st. To be honest, the whole family really needed a break after Covid. It’s hard to explain how this house, the grounds, the whole experience managed to make every single person feel relaxed, rejuvenated and back in love with life. It was simply incredibly healing. From the cosy decor to the enchanting gardens. Each and every family member who came said the same thing - the best weekend away they’d ever had.

We were 15 people from 3 generations of my family who found, by chance, this wonderful house. It lived up to our expectations and more. There were places where we could all betogether or places for us to be on our own. The grounds were great to walk around and feel at peace with the world. Chris and Gunna were very approachable and were there if we needed them. All in all a superb location-- oh and we had extremely good weather as well!!!

A number of our group had either dined or dined and stayed at Plas Bodegroes when it was a restaurant. But having the whole house to ourselves including the beautiful grounds was way beyond all our expectations. No need to compete for the best rooms, all were excellent. We were a group of 12 and we never felt on top of each other. The kitchen was superbly stocked with more than enough utensils and equipment. We were all able to breakfast at the kitchen table together and be a part of the morning conversations while breakfast was prepared. Chris showed us around when we arrived, we had the confidence to contact him or his wife if needed to.All members of our group were of the same opinion, and it would be very difficult to find another accomodation as good as this when we decide to do this again. We would certainly return again.

We managed to find this gem at very short notice and I am so glad we did. Firstly Chris was very helpful and replied to me instantly which was really important as we had our original holiday cancelled and i had less than a week to arrange for a group of 20! Plas Bodegroes is setback from the main road and is easily accessible to Phwelli. The accommodation is great because each room has its own bathroom, the kitchen and dining area is grand and was a great social place for congregating- eating and talking and catching up. The annexe was appreciated for a few younger family members who wanted privacy and to be away from the babies and noisy children! The lounges are cosy and have ample seating. Everything we needed was accommodated for and we will definitely like to visit again even though it rained for the full weekend. I can imagine in summer with the gardens this will be a perfect hotspot for families to enjoy especially with the beaches in close proximity too.

The staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful. The surroundings are delightful, ideal for a walk or a spot of reading in the Autumn sunAs to accommodation, the room was perfectly adequate whilst the bathroom was first - rate. We coped with the fact that staff were not allowed in our room because of the Covid Virus. They made very adequate arrangements to cope with the restrictions. This was our third stay at Plas Bodegroes, but we are hardly regular visitors as the first was more than 30 years ago.It is described as a restaurant with rooms and, while this understates the comfort of the rooms, the restaurant is special. We stayed four nights, dined in, and each meal was excellent. What really stood out on this occasion was the quality of the staff, operating in the difficult circumstances of the covid outbreak, nonetheless they were warm, friendly and attentive. A lot of thought has gone in to how to operate during the pandemic. The grounds are beautiful, as is the Llyn peninsula. We’d love to have a fourth stay.

We enjoyed our stay at Plas Bodegroes. The house and grounds are beautiful and both dining rooms superbly decorated with fascinating art work on the walls. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Our only reservation was that we were unable to use the sitting room to read during the day. Our attic room was very small, with just one armchair, and it was claustrophobic and uncomfortable having to stay there to read on a wet afternoon, especially in the autumn when it's too chilly to sit on the terrace.

The food is definitely the star of Plas Bodegroes. We stayed for two nights and were spoilt for choice on the menus. How the chef makes every item so tasty is beyond belief. The little extras like canapés and appetisers just make the experience extra special. Service both at dinner and breakfast was attentive. The hotel is extra cautious with Covid arrangements which was reassuring but that meant the lounge was out of commission for pre dinner drinks so in the cool weather it means straight to your table.

What an absolute treat Plas Bodegroes is. From booking to paying the bill it's a fabulous, relaxed experience. All the staff were friendly and even with masks you could see their smiles. Arriving late we were greeted with a warm welcome and the news we could dine later so no need to rush, how wonderful and thoughtful is that. As for dinner...WOW! I'm not sure you would get a meal of this quality anywhere in North Wales. You certainly wouldn't get it in England without a very stiff and snobby waiting staff. Everyone made you feel like old friends who they wanted to spoil and give a truly magical evening...and they succeeded, and how. As for the food itself...just stunning..I've always wanted to try saltmarsh lamb and it was beyond my expectations, so so tender. I only wish we had discovered you earlier and that we lived closer to come more often. The house itself is beautiful, even with Covid-19 soft furnishings restrictions. If you ever get the chance to stay and dine at Plas Bodegroes DO!

We have just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at Plas Bodegroes. The hotel is lovely and set in beautiful gardens, best enjoyed having a pre-dinner drink on the wisteria covered terrace. But it is the food that is outstanding and after exploring the peninsula in the day, we eagerly looked forward to each night's offerings. The staff were helpful and friendly and wore visors and masks. We were very pleased with the stay. No complaints what so ever. Suggestion: for those stayingmore than a night or two, a short bar menu would be nice, especially for lunch or mid-afternoon.

We have been occasional patrons for several decades (it's a long way from home or we'd visit more often), so we knew what we would have expected in happier times. We happened to reserve rooms for the very day Plas Bodegroes was allowed to re-open after the Covid-19 restrictions, so we were not sure how unfamiliar the familiar experience would turn out to be. We should not have given it a second thought. Sanitiser, masks, goggles and vizors cannot cool the warmth of the Bodegroes experience! We had an exquisitely comfortable stay with marvellous food: as ever, nothing is too much trouble. Not only are Gunna and Chris to be congratulated on planning the safe re-opening but all the staff deserve great credit for taking the PPE in their cheerful stride. What's more, the grounds are looking splendid, and the weather even played its part on one day of your stay. We have returned home to 36 degrees: give me Bodegroes in the drizzle any day!

This was a last minute booking for a business trip. The hotel is set in beautifull surroundings and has a feel of peace and tranquility. Perfect after a manic day at work.My only regret was that I didn't have time to enoy the surroundings or eat in the restaurant. I will be booking here again on my next trip.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights with you.It was perfect in every way but especially so as we came home to lockdown. We felt very much at home with you and I particularly loved exploring your garden. I cannot wait to return in happier times.Make sure you reopen when this is all over!

We spent a couple of nights unwinding in this 'restaurant with rooms' enjoying the house, grounds and especially the food, the company of the other guests and the friendly and efficient staff.Having spoken to the owners when making and later confirming the booking, it would have been nice to have met them in person. We would very much like to return one day when this current coronavirus nightmare is over.

You met Gunna on Tuesday evening, she served your dinner to you! Chris cooked your breakfast, but is a bit shy. Thank you anyway for your lovely review!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay after viewing the advert in the Saturday Telegraph newspaper In November. We both enjoy Wales as Roger’s homeland is Powys. My father was born in Snowdonia so Wales means a lot to us. It was my birthday on Friday so it was an occasion. What a great find. The food, sorry about the cliche, was to die for. Our room and the whole experience was memorable. We have commissioned an artist who is exhibiting at the gallery in Llanbedrog to produce a painting for us so we have to come back. The staff are wonderful. Please pass on our thanks. Our best wishes to you for whatever your plan is as to your future

We enjoyed our brief stay. The junior suite was well equipped although a supply of herbal teas would have been good. However, there was no problem when we asked for some peppermint tea bags. The food was excellent as was the service at breakfast. We did, however, feel that the service at dinner was rather protracted. If we were to stay in the future we would only book B & B.
Response
It is always a good idea to find out what a place is like before you book a cheap deal. And ss you discovered, we supply herbal teas on request, as they are not used if put in the rooms

Second time we have stayed, this time for three days over the New Year. A lovely, cosy house with amazingly friendly staff and wonderful hosts. The ladies who serve at breakfast are so nice you never want to leave! The rooms are cosy, well appointed and homely. The food is serious with real talent in the kitchen. An excellent wine list that is unheard of for value, especially in a setting like this. The Llyn peninsula is a beautifulplace to explore especially the beaches on a clear winter's evening. New Year's Eve was amazing with a special tasting menu, wonderful company and a firework display in the garden that must have cost a bit! I don't think it possible to have a nicer time. All in all a brilliant stay.

Thank you to Gunna and all of her team at Plas Bodegroes for a wonderful 2 night break over New Year. Our room was super clean with everything we needed including fresh milk in the fridge to go with a selection of teas/coffee/biscuits, crisp linens, fluffy towels and an oh so comfortable bed.I am allergic to many food items including gluten, dairy, shellfish and seafood yet felt perfectly welcomed and at ease when dining as the chef and his team fully understand the dangers of cross contamination. I was able to join all of the other guests in a delicious 7 course New Years Eve tasting menu. Really super food. The midnight fireworks were a lovely end to really specialevening.

The property is wonderful and walking the grounds is an absolute pleasure - the silver globe that reflects the house in its image is something to see and enjoy. The food is worth the drive (over 200 miles) - our only wish would be less time between the first 2 courses - otherwise a menu that makes it difficult to choose and everything beautifully cooked and presented. It remains one of our top choices and great favourites.

After 35 years of weddd bliss we chose Plas Bodegroes to celebrate in style. We loved the spacious room Tresi Aur (10). Two comfy chairs, choice of walk in shower and bath. Cafetière coffee and earl grey tea with cookies on the welcome tray. I coveted the veranda court yard with cobble stone flooring and water feature.Dinner was a pure enjoyment of delicious tastes. Classy breakfast selection included porridge grapefruit and full English and they found some baked beans for us too. (After checking out and having a round of golf we went back for afternoon tea, but they close Sunday's and Mondays. ) Excellent -thank you. Diolch.

My daughter and I stayed here recently as we wanted to explore the Llyn peninsula. We were made to feel very welcome and my daughter who is vegan with a nut allergy was well catered for. We ate in the restaurant on one of the evenings and had a totally delicious meal. Our twin room was super comfy and the shower was excellent - always a good test. The gardens are gorgeous and the breakfast was yummy and the ladies in the restaurant were lovely. Huge recommendation from us both.

We particularly enjoyed the warm welcome, super accommodation, exciting menu choices every evening and the food itself was exceptional. The setting is unique: from the 'venerable beech avenue', the manicured lawns, hidden gardens and inspirational planting schemes all combined to make this a most memorable stay.Thank you to all staff.

We have been visiting Plas Bodegroes as diners for many years and the food has always been incredibly good. Last weekend we stayed there and it was lovely. Everything is so beautiful- the gardens and fresh flowers in all the rooms and all the staff were delightful. We sat drinking our breakfast coffee watching the swallows skimming over the lawn- bliss!

My wife and I recently stayed at your wonderful Plas Bodegroes. What a beautiful country house in a peaceful, remote setting but within easy reach of the Snowdonia area and the North Wales coast. We were looked after by the most lovely, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant served some of the best food we have eaten, from an extensive breakfast menu to a dinner menu with food that was worthy of a Michelin star. One of our special memories of Plas Bodegroes was sitting on the veranda overlooking the gardens enjoying the strong scent of the roses. Finally, whilst reluctant to mention the following as everything else was perfect, our double bed was unfortunately very small and uncomfortable which led to disturbed sleep. However, we will definitely return to Plas Bodegroes to experience your very unique country house hotel again.Kind regardsPeter & Honey Sorby
Response
Thank you for kind comments and constructive criticism. We are sorry the small bed size caused you discomfort and we are replacing the mattress with a larger one.

We found you online as we needed to spend a night in the area. Your website looked intriguing. We were not disappointed. The room was comfortable with an en-suite bathroom. Our main concern was that the skylight needed a blind which is probably quite easy to install. The food at dinner was adequate although we felt that the asparagus risotto could have been more exciting.Breakfast catered for us as veggies and was tasty and well presented. Pity that there was no soya milk available. The grounds were well maintained with colourful flowers and foliage. There was an air of tranquility. We appreciated the overallcare taken to detail which paid off.
Response
Thank you for your kind and constructive comments - there is a remote control solar blind on the Velux window, the remote was on your bedside table.

We came back to Plas Bodegroes for yet another personal anniversary wondering if it would still be as good as on all our other visits. It is! The food was excellent; imaginative, perfectly cooked and presented, the wine list full of really good, interesting choices and at reasonable prices. The service was friendly, efficient and bilingual. It is a beautiful setting and at its most lovely on a fine summer's evening. We will be back yet again and with the dog, of course. Mae'n adderchog, ewch!

The hotel is set in the most beautiful grounds and we were blessed with warm sunshine so tbat sitting out whether on the terrace or in the tranquility of the little courtyard, scented and shaded by a delightful collection of rambling roses. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Our dinner was excellent with a surprising number of little appetisers. Breakfast was of a similar standard. Very disappointed our room was in the attic with sloppingceiling and low beam plus the four flights of stairs to get to it.Was this The Telegraph deal room? Perhaps when taking a booking one should be asked if they would have any problems with climbing four flights of stairs I would imagine most regardless of age would decline. That was the only downside of our stay and we would have loved to have returned but we felt disappointed with our attic experience

This is a beautiful hotel and the food is amazing! Our room was in the converted garden rooms, and was particularly quiet with views of the burgeoning kitchen garden. Staff are kind and courteous, although a little flustered if you arrive at the bar earlier than expected! The food is delicious, I would return for the asparagus risotto alone. Breakfast is simple but all of a very good quality. I don’t know where they source their eggs from but they have the most incredible orange yolks!Make time to walk around the grounds, the avenue of ash trees leading to the end of the old drive is well worth a wander before supper.

Plas Bodegroes stands out as the best place to stay around Pwllheli, and the food is fantastic. We are vegetarians and were pleased to see veggie choices on the menu and a separate veggie menu. We were disappointed by portion sizes, though, especially for the main course. The roasted cauliflower was tiny, and more like a side order really. The flavours were delicious though! We also noticed that there were no English wines on the extensive wine list. It would be great to see some English sparkling wines on there - they deserve to be. Overall, a good experience (and great breakfast) and we will be back!

Beautiful house and surroundings and room very comfortable. Disappointed with dinner. Vegan choice I made was unimaginative. I think with hindsight I would have appreciated more discussion of menu options in advance of meal. Just the lack of just fresh salads, fresh juices with greens, vegetables etc as well as pressed orange would have been appreciated ... more focus on healthy options. Thank you.

They even brought us some complimentary fizz, which was lovely! We stayed in one of the annexe rooms (Superior Double), accessed through a covered courtyard, which was perfect for us. My wife's Alium allergy was respected throughout and she did not have to query any of the dishes or appetisers. If we have any criticism, it is that the double bed was on the small side and on the busiest night we did have to wait for our food. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Would suggest some background music in the dining room and breakfast room as it was uncomfortably quiet even with all tables taken making it difficult to talk without every table hearing everything you say.

We stayed for one night on the 8th Feb and the room and staff, including breakfast were excellent'The evening meal was NOT. We both had duck to start and this was verychewy and uneatable and we left most of it. We mentioned this and was told you would mention it to your supplier! not a word of apology or consideration.I then had the pork for main . the'cheek' was excellent. the 'loin' was very chewy and I left a large amount. I mentioned this and was told again that you would speak to your suppliers. I suggested you spoke to the chef!. Again, no apology or consideration. My wife had Welsh lamb and that was excellent.I did not make as much fuss as I could have as this attracts attention and, more importantly spoils the meal.We both had an excellent sweet for which the chef should be complimented. As you can see we were disappointed in the food.I have been previously and the food was excellent, obviously, you cannot win them all.Mel Green

As you can see we were disappointed in the food.I have been previously and the food was excellent, obviously, you cannot win them all.Mel GreenP.S. This restaurant with rooms is quite wonderful. We are very fussy but cannot fault this place. We booked at very short notice so we didn’t have a choice of room but the food service and ambiance of this place made our stay very special. Food is faultless

My husband, small dog Molly and I stayed at this wonderful hotel when we came to the Llyn Peninsula to view a potential new home. The setting was stunning; the hotel itself was beautiful and we were warmly welcomed by heloful staff and a glowing fire. Our room was extremely comfortable and a good size with an excellent ensuite with bath and shower wet room. Plenty of fluffy towels and bathrobes along with good quality complimentary toiletries. Real ground coffee and homemade vanilla and chocolate biscuits were included in the room's refreshments. The grounds were a pleasure to walk with dog- who also thouroughly enjoyed exploring the Grade II listed gardens. Our breakfast was made with fresh and locally sourced ingredients and everything was cooked to perfection and presented with care. The brandy coffees started the day soothingly after a comfortable and peaceful sleep. We would recommend the Plas Bodegroes for anyone visiting the Llyn Peninsula. Only 5-10minutes outside of Pwllheli makes it an ideal base for exploring one of our favourite parts of Wales and makes us proud to be Welsh and having such first class, friendly and welcoming high quality hospitality on offer. We would like to take the opportunity here to thank all the staff of Plas Bodegroes for a fantastic and friendly visit. We will be returning for future stays. And your doggie companions are equally welcome at this wonderful hotel-which makes the stay even more pleasant. Thank you!

We had a lovely night at Plas Bodegroes. The stff were friendly and welcoming, the house is beautiful and a lot of care and love has been poured into it. The art work is interesting and we envied quite a few paintings that we would have liked to take home with us. The food was delicious, plates not too large and full of flavour. As with our previous visit earlier this year out stay was thoroughly enjoyable. In my view it is the friendliness and politeness of the staff which lingers longest in the memory, and in todays modern age where "self" is all important it is a delight to be treated by people so giving of themselves to ensure that your guests every need is catered for with willingness and a smile. My only concern on our visit is that whilst not wanting to be rushed at dinner, the time between courses has seemed a bit extended at times to the degree that our main course on our first night was quite cool. I mentioned this at the time and it did not happen again during our stay. The waiting period between courses being just slightly reduced would I believe improve your guests overall diningexperience. The quality of the food coming out of the kitchen is of a high standard and I would not like my above comments to be classed as a criticism, as your restaurant is one of the few establishments where guests can "dine" and not just eat. The absence of mood music at meal times is also for me a big bonus. Finally, I would just like to thank you all once again for making our stay so enjoyable.Kindest regards,David Jenkins

Surroundings beautiful, hotel stylish, staff pleasant and welcoming, housekeeping excellent. Room 4 lovely views and quiet. Well appointed. Food well presented and interesting. Niggles - step up into bathroom hazardous (banged head on doorframe - needs padding). Basin taps very stiff and dripped unless tightly off. Duration of dinner - 2 hours - rather long (40 minutes from order to starter).Maybe start service earlier? Breakfast - personal preference make juices, cereals, etc. self-service so guests can help themselves without waiting to order. Why not put salt/pepper on breakfast tables? Overall, almost perfect! Also thank you for the complimentary anniversary glasses of wine - much appreciated.

The attention to detail and great service made our stay one of the most enjoyable and relaxing experiences we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back.

Plas BOdegroes is a lovely hotel in which we have stayedbefore. We enjoyed our one night stay especially the dinner. BUT the breakfast was a huge disappointment. NO fresh fruit on the menu ( although fresh orange juice was provided ). We politely returned the cooked breakfast as the sausages were burnt and the bacon was cold and greasy. We were given 'fresh'! bacon and sausage but they were no better. The staff apologised and we were given a £10 reduction on the bill!

In our experience hotels, or in this case restaurant with rooms, seldom live up to their billing. Plas Bodegroes does. The house itself is a gem, set in peaceful gardens. The room we had was bright, airy and well appointed. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and professional. Additionally, the wine list is imaginative and not overpriced. This is the ideal base from which to explore the Llyn peninsula and North Wales.

What a wonderful break in a beautiful area,Plas Bodegroes exceeded expectations, The building and setting was revealed after driving along the curved drive between trees and bushes. The staff were very welcoming and we discussed dinner arrangements for that evening. We had booked a two night break with dinner on both evenings. We were shown through the house past many great pieces of art adorning the walls to our large room, it contained everything you would expect in an establishment at this level.Dinner was delicious with accompanying wines at various price levels. This level of break does not come cheap, however the highly professional standard of cooking and beautiful surroundings make it well worth it. It exceeded our expectations and my wife had a wonderful sixtieth birthday .

It is a few years since we last visited. Our previous stay was delightful in every way. Nothing has changed! There is still the warm welcome, helpful professional staff throughout, a marvellous setting with its woodland and courtyard gardens and a very comfortable room. Food and drink at dinner were excellent, with well prepared and presented mains of turbot and trout. My starter of roasted carrot soup with crispy black pudding was perfection. An exciting wine discovery was Ripensato and they served by favourite pudding wine, Torcolato. What more could we have asked for. We hope to be back before too long.

Quiet location. Comfortable room with a view over the garden area. Magnificent wisteria and roses. Delicious food, highly recommended. Only downside was no service offered to purchase a newspaper.

From the moment we arrived the magic started. Tucked away along a curved gravel drive, Plas Bodegroes revealed it’s secrets slowly, like unwrapping a perfect gift. The wisteria racemes, ferns, blue bells and roses framed the entrance. The staff were unfailingly friendly, seeming genuinely pleased to greet us. The room was perfect, cosy, elegant and supremely comfortable. And the view.......hypnotic, balanced greens stretching out along a mystical path. One of the most memorable interludes of my life, truly enchanted.Do take the option of the evening meal, heaven on a plate. Delightful.

A treat for my husband for our anniversary. Gorgeous drive up to Plas Bodegroes in the sunshine. We received a very warm welcome, and this warmth continued from the staff for the whole of our stay. The staff at Plas Bodegroes are fabulous. What a team. The meal on our first night was excellent, we had been told that the food was superb and we weren't disappointed. The breakfast too was excellent. To the ladies who cover the breakfast shift, you would brighten up anyone's morning. Our Superior Double room was lovely but we did have to request that the previous guests dirty socks were removed from under our bed. We were looking for a Velux window remote that we were told would be in a draw but wecouldn't find it so we looked under the bed in case it had been dropped. Very quickly dealt with. On the whole were very happy with our room No.10, but we did have a problem with the wet room bathroom. After my husband showered the bathroom floor was soaked from sink, to toilet, up the bath, under the bin and as far as the door. We had to dry off the bathroom before going back in each time after the shower was used.I slipped on the first night as I was wearing heels not realising that the floor was still wet. An accident waiting to happen, for guests, or staff. That aside we would go back to Plas Bodegroes and take friends. Thank you all for a lovely stayand for making our anniversary very special

The toast was cold and hard and it shouldn’t have been necessary to have to ask formore coffee. Otherwiise we all enjoyeD ourstay enormously and look forward to a repeat visit.

Thank you very much for a lovely two night stay at the Plas Bodegroes. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived until our departure. The staff are extremely helpful in a non intrusive way. Nothing was to much trouble for them. The food, both breakfast and dinner were exceptional. The Plas Bodegroes has a nice quiet ambiance which makes it a very relaxing place to stay.Having previously read a couple of negative reviews on trip advisor (The baby and dog episode)!! I agree totally with the replies from the owners, unfortunately some people or very self centred and make a habit of complaining for no reason whatsoever. (They do not like rules). Will certainly ruturn at some point in the future.Thank you.Mr & Mrs Winstanley

Two nights in December on DB&B basis were excellent.Friendly welcome, lovely Junior Suite room, tea & bara brith by log fire in lounge set the tone for a memorable stay. Good canapés with pre-dinner drinks, excellent menu and very good wine list promise something special and we weren't disappointed.Superbly flavoursome and well cooked dishes eaten in an atmospheric, beautifully decorated and furnished dining room.Wines we chose were very, very good and all at very reasonable prices.Good coffee and petit fours in lounge after dinner.Excellent breakfast - good choice, well prepared and presented. All and all somewhere to be visited time and time again.

We stayed for one night and had an evening meal and breakfast. The food was very good with plenty of variety in the courses and the service was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was warm with a great bath. The bedroom was homely but rather chilly as it was winter and a draft came from the old windows but this did not spoil our visit.

Plas Bodegroes gave us everything we could possibly wish for, very friendly and helpful staff, superb accommodation, peaceful and attractive surroundings and excellent food superbly presented. But just one comment which infact I mentioned to Holly Saturday evening when she enquired about out stay, we found the wait between courses too long, 15 - 20 mintues is acceptable but 30 mins found us getting a bit fed up! However, we very much hope to return and will certainly recommend it.

We first visited PB some 24 years ago, just after we were married, and we've carried fond memories since...so it seemed only fitting that we should return for our 25th anniversary : and we are so glad we did!The location remains perfect : a walk through the trees and round the (immaculate) grounds before a drink on the terrace...and the climax of any visit, the truly wonderful restaurant 'experience' : nothing has changed because perfection cannot be surpassed!Attention to detail, impeccable service, fine (reasonably priced) wines and possibly the best dining experience I've ever had in recent (24 years!) memory : all in all, a visit to PB is a must and we certainly won't wait as long before we return again!

Good room and very comfortable bed, shower room a bit tight but overall the 3 nights we stayed were great. My 14 year old son struggled with the adult menu but that is our issue not Plas Bodegroes. Also we had to cut short the stay by one night and the Manager found another booking so no cost to me. Price is very good value for money and I would stay again and recommend to anyone.

We highly recommend staying at PlasBodegroes after having spent a splendid evening in one of their superior rooms. This country Manor House is picture perfect with a beautiful veranda adorned with lavender and wysteria from which to relax and sip G&T. The restaurant menu looked fabulous however we were not lucky enough to sample it due to our attendance at a friend's party. The room was bright, clean and the bed very comfortable. Large windows overlooked the pretty gardens and fields. The bathroom had a sunken bath and a lovely shower over. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very attentive. We would definitely return for a relaxing weekend and this time enjoy the evening menu. Thank you for your hospitality.

We had a fabulous break with a group of friends. The accommodation service and food were fabulous .We were particularly impressed with the way my gluten intolerant issues were addressed, I've never beenso well catered for ☺.Our only blip was that the dinner eating at 8.15 on tbe first evening was rather long winded as service was rather slow on that occasion.

Charming and friendly hotel - probably the vest in this area of Wales . We had a suiteat the top of the hotel . Fortunately we were agile enough to climb the stairs as they get narrower towards the top! Might be worth checking guests can manage this before allocating rooms . Alsothe mould around the bath requires some attention . Otherwise the food was superb both dinner and breakfast . Would stay again .

From the moment of our arrival we were very taken by Plas Bodegroes. The Georgian façade, the Victorian verandah, and the surrounding richness of the grounds dominated by the beech tree lined driveway are all that one could wish for.Following that there is the understated charm of the interior; the comfortable sitting room fora pre-dinner drink, then the pleasure of being invited into the duck-egg-blue dining room with its elegant French doors and array of contemporary paintings for what turns out to be as good a dinner as you could wish for. Decisions, decisions - which of the tempting starters and whether to follow with the Welsh lamb,Welsh Black beef or perhaps the turbot. You really have to stay for a few nights not to miss out on anything. As regards accommodation, we had a spaciousroom in the attic from where the early morning birdsong was another delight - and so was the breakfast that followed.Add on the warm welcome and the excellent service and you are already thinking of your next visit!

A beautiful setting for a special occasion . The lunch was delicious and we were looked after extremely well. The owner organised a taxi to get us to an evening celebration and couldn't have been more helpful. Our nights stay in a beautiful room overlooking the gardens was equally as good and breakfast excellent. Will definitely be back. Thank you

We had a fantastic stay in this idyllic setting. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean and a great size with stunning view of the garden from the window. We booked into the restaurant for our evening meal. The food was excellent and the service exceptional. Looking forward to returning in the near future. Thank you.

We were very pleased to have stayed at Plas Bodegroes. The house, the gardens and our room(no3)made our visit very enjoyable. There was one disappointment and that was the evening meal. We came down at 7.30pm and all your guests were cramped in a rather small and sombre room for drinks and canapes. We chose our meal from the menu and then shown to our table. There was then a long wait before we were served and also in between courses. This was not good and we raised it with the staff on duty. The food was disappointing to the extent that it was difficult to find the monkfish (starter) amongst too much "oozing" salad and then the lamb (main course) was sinewy and chewy. Not what we had expected. On leaving the next morning, we were told that our bill was discounted by £40 to compensate for the disappointing meal.May we suggest that the breakfast room is made into a comfortable lounge where drinks and canapes can be served and guests can relax during the day.The service from your staff was understanding and good, yet with a sense of embarrassment. We had had very good recommendations about Plas Bodegroes from friends and so hope that our comments are helpful to you.We were confused about who the owners were and who the managers were as we had heard of changes. Names would help.We would be pleased to hear from you as a result of our comments.Anthony and Tina Belderbos

Plas Bodegroes is a gorgeous retreat in a stunning location. The house is beautifully designed, our suite at the top of the house was generous with the most sumptuously comfortable bed. The surrounding grounds, the walled garden, the bluebell walk are all utterly delightful. And I've not even got on to the food yet. Our evening meal was beautifully presented and delicious. Breakfast was also delightful particularly because the ladies looking after us were just wonderful. And that's the thing with Plas Bodegroes. The food and rooms are gorgeous but everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful, charming - I could go on. It's that personal service which will ensure we come back again and again. Can't wait. Thank you all

We were delighted to return to Plas Bodegroes, having visited several years ago. We were pleased to find this hidden gem delivering the high levels of service and excellent food that we remembered. The setting is so beautiful and the gardens are a delight. We loved the food and were pleased to see lots of fish on the menu, well cooked as always with some innovative twists. I voted my starter of a lemon sole paupiette as the best course during my stay, but my husband said it was the Welsh beef. If you haven't been to Plas Bodegroes before you should really give it a try. The staff were lovely and Gunna and Chris's unmistakeable style and charm and still very much in evidence.

We have just returned from our two night stay at Plas Bodegroes - lovely old house with beautiful well kept grounds. Our bedrooms across the courtyard were comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was of a high standard with delightful service- only thing missing was fresh fruit salad! On our first night we weredisappointed as two items had run out on the menu, They were replaced by alternatives but these then appeared on the following nights menu which meant there was little difference between the two days.We would have preferred more variety when staying two nights. Having said that, the food was generally very good and nicely presented and the wine list was good. There were four staff on duty on our second night and only two on the first. This did make a difference and created a more professional atmosphere.

We have stayed at Plas Bodegroes on a number of occasions; we find the food delicious, the dog friendly room and dog biscuits go down a treat with our dogs, and the service is impeccable. On a couple of occasions we have invited family to stay with us and also friends to join us for dinner, and they have all loved the place as much as we do.We look forward to our next visit later in the year. The lasting memory of out stay was afternoon tea on the terrace with the sun shining the birds singing and the beautiful outlook over the perfectly designed garden. Your hotel and its rooms are well designed and decorated in a style that went well with the period of the building. We found the staff helpful and well trained. The breakfast service was excellent. The three hour evening meal came as a surprise. For those people in groups with plenty to talk about three hours is probably acceptable. For us a mature couple married 52 years the time dragged. We felt that a simple bistro style menu in the breakfast room would have been a good idea.We did not want a second long lingering meal so we had no option but to eat early in one of the Pubs on the list that you provided.Overall an enjoyable stay only spoilt by having to eat out at a pub on the second night.
Response
Thank you for your review. One of the many difficulties with booking with online travel agents rather than direct with us is that you cannot glean information about meal times. We should point out that the 3 hours you mention is from arrival in the bar for drinks to departure after coffee to bed. The actual meal is well under two hours\\\' duration. Nonetheless you were offered a quicker meal time for your second evening but sadly you did not trust our assurance that you could be served much quicker at your request, so you had the disappointment instead.

Spent a weekend here on a weekend DBB package. We were in room 2 which was above the kitchen so had some muted noise in our room. This wasn't an issue for sleeping generally except that my wife did hear them at 7 a.m. one morning.Room itself was very good, bed comfortable and the heating was controllable. Bathroom good with lots of hot water but the walk in shower did allow water onto the bathroom floor and soaked the bath mat.Food is what you come here for anddinner is canapés, amuse bouche, starter, main and dessert.Coffee/tea is extra.Food was excellent and choice of five or so items for each course. Was a little disappointed that the menu was exactly the same for both nights though. Courses are not huge so you need all three but will feel full afterwards.House wine £19.50 a bottle which is about right for this quality of restaurant and the overall wine list was extensive.Breakfast was excellent quality.Overall enjoyed my stay and would stay again when in the area.

We stayed at Plas Bodegroes in March. The building is situated in beautiful grounds and the drive up to the house felt like being in the secret garden! The rooms were very large and beautifully decorated. They were kept in excellent condition. The added extra touches of fresh milk, biscotti in a jar, filter coffee with a cafetiere and a bowl of dog biscuits were very much appreciated. The breakfast was outstanding and obviously made with a great amount of care.We had a variety of dietary requirements within our party and these were met without difficulty - another extra touchthat was very much appreciated. The staff were welcoming, chatty and very helpful. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful restaurant with rooms again!

Booked on a last minute basis for work solely because it was the nearest available hotel to where I was staying, I was so impressed not only with the setting, the tranquility, but also how I was treated from the moment I set foot in the property, so friendly, not at all intrusive, rooms are lovely, food very good, everything was perfect & it is not often I can say that.I almost was waiting for something to be not just right but it never happened. So pleased to have stayed here.

Thoroughly enjoyable stay--staff helpful and friendly especially Abigail(?) who did our room. Stayed with you a couple of times before and I think the cooking this time was a little"off the pace" perhaps occasioned by the whole Christmas thing. Bread on first night less than fresh and chestnuts 'cold' but really I am nit picking BECAUSE I know you set such high standards.Comment--your Christmas package was just too much food--even a committed foodie like me couldn't stretch to the buffet after the Christmas lunch. Notice you are away until the 5th Feb. I shall make contact again after the 15th

We have stayed before under the previous management and everything was not notch but i am sorry to say standards have slipped. Our main disappointment was the meal we just couldnt eat it because of the salt once we informed the waitress she said yes they had discussed this with chef and she would pass our coments on, if she knew it may be salty for some people she should of told us when we ordered, went to our room hungry and didnt sleep well due to thirst so not a good stay but still paid the full bill NOT good value shame because we had loved this place but wont be back.

We loved the building and grounds (well thought out parking area) tasteful, creative decor, excellent bed and bedding. Not matched by the menu and evening meal, which was our prime reason for visiting and for which we were prepared to pay top rate. This was a special occasion for us, we had wanted to visit Plas Bodegroes for years and were excited at the prospect. We were aware of the recent changes and comments (particularly on Trip Advisor) but following the note posted by Chris Chown hoped problems were addressed, were reassured and decided to proceed with our booking having been in two minds.Your sample menu online and at the entrance is far more sophisticated than the simple paired down menu of our visit, we thought the menu unimaginative, unadventurous and although good quality ingredients not the culinary experience and creative flair of our expectations.Let's be honest, roast lamb with peas or skate with leeks are easy straight forward dishes that we can all knock up at home quickly and easily.Ditto chick peas with curry spices, a piece of fish with peanuts, etc.We note your online menu is £49 per head yet the basic menu we had was £39 per head; could you let us know what we were charged please. Our overriding feeling is that our visit was not worth the huge bill, it seems we paid for a Michelin starred restaurant with rooms but what we experienced was bed, breakfast and evening meal. The staff were good, the ladies at breakfast your biggest asset, the lack of an obvious owner/manager led to a rather bland and anonymous character to Plas Bodegroes. We understand your wish to retire/step back but we were extremely upset and disappointed with our experience, the price tag led us to expect superior food,we are shocked by what we paid and trying to forget it so that it doesn't spoil our special holiday. We also stayed at Portmeirion; that was magic, the food exquisite and well worth the money which was less than Plas Bodegroes.

We came to Plas Bodegras as a group of 6 adults to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. we stayed in 3 Junior Suites which were all lovely, spacious and very comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and decorated the table beautifully for our actual celebration on the Saturday night. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. My only slight criticism was that it was a shame that the menu was virtually the same bar a couple of startersfor both meals. We had asked on the Friday night if the menu would be different for Saturday and were told that it would be.Other than that we all had a fantastic weekend with amazing weather and would definitely return for another weekend break.

Plans Bodegroes is obviously a lovely building with pleasant grounds. The room was also very pleasant, with a comfortable bed and decent amenities. Also with a nice view of the grounds. The food was obviously well cooked.Unfortunately it was all very 'safe' food and not very interesting.Perhaps this was to satisfy older repeat visitors, it will not however attract any new visitors to return as the restaurant culture in the region is getting rather more exciting. The chefs obviously have skill, but need to try more than bistro classics. The portions were also tiny, and the amuse and canapés were not enough to help provide a full stomach. The petit fours wer also less generous than most and less care seemed like to be taken than in most fine dining establishments.Service was also patchy.English levels were not the best and it was not explained what the amuse was. It's obviously a work in progress but the staffing seemed short and the quality not up to equivalently priced restaurants. We enjoyed our breakfast very much, good service which contrasted so much with the night before. It was very busy on the night we dined, so something must be going right. On my experience though it's hard to say if Plas Bodegroes is a Restaurant with Rooms or a lovely hotel with a reasonable dining room.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEWJust got home after a couple of days stay. We know what we like and this is why we return to Plas BG every year. If you love tranquility, quality, class and appreciate dining where each course is a work of art as well as being wholesome and bursting with many different flavours, then this is a must. Yes some differences this year due to a change in Chef but equally as satisfying. Special mention for the team, first class, friendly yet unobtrusive service. Extra mention for Ali, who is a real asset. The gardens are a credit to the usually anonymous Julia and her team, including Huxley, but this year we met her as well, which was a real pleasure. Having now retired I wouldn't begrudge the same for Chris and Gunna, but am soooooo glad they found this solution. To top it all I was greeted by a waddle of 22 ducks this morning as I sat on the verandah. That just about made by day, only topped by a magnificent breakfast served by the wonderful morning service ladies. A huge thank you to all at Plas BG, we appreciate all that you do in making this our favourite destination. We will return.Room Tip: We love them all, each is unique, tasteful and comfortably luxurious.See more room tipsStayed September 2016, travelled as a couple5 of 5 starsValue5 of 5 starsRooms5 of 5 starsService

Although we stayed only one night we really thought our stay was full of wonders, from the mysterious tree lined path (the stuff of fairy tales)to the varied gardens and our well stocked and comfortable room with delightful view. The food, ah the food, each item on the plate not just perfectly cooked but an extraordinary experience for the taste buds and the helpful involved staff only enhanced the experience.Breakfast upheld the experience of the night before with the friendly happy staff brightening a rainy morning. I particularly enjoyed the Uwd (a new welsh word for me) I only wished that we had arrived earlier.

The place was the same as ever and the staff were very welcoming. The food is a different style-inventive and delicious- it reminded us of Meadow in California- a 3 Michelin star establishment. Having read the reviews before coming, we were very impressed. On arrival, a lovely situated property, with relaxed setting. The room was of a good size, but Wi-Fi presented problems, as although available, it can quickly disengage in certain parts of the property, especially our room. Breakfasts were very good with very helpful and attentive staff. Unfortunately, our room did encounter noise on two nights from the above room, until the early hours, which made our sleep difficult. However, the manager was very apologetic and perhaps this was just our bad luck! Overall, ideally located, but fully priced.

My wife and I recently stayed for 3 nights. Overall our experience was average but it could have been so much better. The house is lovely and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Our room (9) was small but comfortable and the bathroom excellent. However, three bulbs at ground floor level were out,the toiletries weren't replenished and the towels not changed every day.In the restaurant, the food was lovely. You are coming for nouvelle cuisine so you should be expecting small portions. You get them. Only comment on the food is that the menu doesn't change, which across 3 nights is disappointingand that the attention to beautiful presentation seems to be at the expense of heat...all of our meals were disappointinglytepid at best. The cheese course was particularly good. Breakfast was teriffic every day, served by friendly local staff and of great quality. Too many flies in the breakfast room though. Our biggest recommendation would be to inject some more personality into the place. It lacked an overall character in charge. After a 6 hour drive getting there we were very perfunctorily shown to our room without any conversation and across three days I really think we could have been referred to by our name! On check out we were charged for two evening dinners and drinks that we didnt have - all removed, but without an apology and in a high class establishment such as this, simply shouldnt have happened.Wifi wont be important to many but it was to us. Despite boosters being evident, the signal in our room was very poor. So, a beautiful house, a lovely setting and a great kitchen offering wonderful cuisine that could be hotter and change more frequently. The staff are effective and efficient, but with the exception of the breakfast team, could add some much-missed personality and spirit.

From the moment we arrived at this charming Manor House, we knew that we were in for a most enjoyable stay. Every member of staff was charming and clearly genuinely concerned that we should have a memorable experience. We stayed for three nights; dinner each evening was a culinary delight, with innovative, delicious and truly beautiful food accompanied by excellent wines from a sensibly priced list. Our room was very comfortable indeed and breakfast each morning served by equally amiable and concerned staff was the petfect start for a day's walking and sight-seeing. The decor throughout the house is also so well chosen to enhance the overall experience. This is a very special place in a most attractive part of the country, very well worth an extended visit.

We are traveling in & around Wales for 6 days before cruising back to USA next week. Our stay at Plas Bodegras was lovely. The understated elegance is reflected in both the public & guest rooms; the staff is friendly & efficient but the real joy was the meals. The dinners were superb in both the presentation & in taste. We were so impressed by the chief's culinary talent. Our entire visit was truly memorable.

This was our fourth stay at Plas Bodegroes, the first under the new management arrangements. Thankfully, very little has changed and the standard of rooms, meals, service and general ambience are as high as ever. It was especially welcome to find that the breakfast staff are still there and as frfiendly as ever. The quality of our three evening meals was outstanding and the imagination behind each dish amazing. The only comment we would make is that a little variation in the menu from day-to-day would have added to the interest - we'll have to stay longer next time! We wish Chris and Camille and their team every success for the future. Thanks to you all.

We stayed for three nights Dinner,Bed and Breakfast. We found the room comfortable, overall, but incredibly hot and stuffy on the first night. In this respect, the room would benefit from air conditioning. The room also felt a bit tired, especially the cramped bathroom which would benefit from modernisation. The food was delicious and Michelin star standard. However,we found the size of the main courses mean, and wouldn't mind paying more for more generously sized portions. The service was fine in the restaurant, but the organisation of the reception and front of house appeared occasionally chaotic and unprofessional, which didn't leave a good impression. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but with improvements suggested it could have been excellent.

This is a lovely place to stay - a nice location, lovely grounds, friendly and helpful staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable and everywhere is clean. The food is delicious and beautiful presented although portions are a little too small. We stayed two nights and were surprised that the menu didn't change. With no specials provided this did limit choice a little particularly for any vegetarians for whom there was only one option. Overall a nice place to stay

We arrived at Plas Bodegroes and was greeted warmly by Helen who showed us up to our room at the top of the house. The room was beautiful and the bathroom amazing. We had booked dinner and was not disappointed at all....just about everything was perfect (even the rain did not spoil our stay!) The service throughout our stay was faultless.I would most certainly recommend this hotel and restaurant for a stay or just dinner.I am fully rested after a wonderful time at Plas Bodegroes.Thank you to everyone :-)

Lovely house in beautiful surroundings.Hotel staff know how to look after their guests in an informal way, very acceptable.I have to describe the food as excellent, both dinner and breakfast.Dinner service was a little late and slow for our liking, not a major gripe. The room was adequate, next time we stay we will go for a larger and more expensive one.Above criticisms are minor and do not detract from our very positive thoughts on PLas Bodegroes..

Recently spent 2 nights on a DBB basis & first impressions are very good. Delightful house in superb gardens with friendly staff all keen to make you welcome. Food is excellent but very small portions which is fine on a tasting menu but not a 3 course meal. This is the only niggle in an otherwise excellent short break.

We have been coming to Plas Bodegroes for a 'big treat' for quite some years now. We were really sad when we found that it was to be sold and then really excited when we found it would continue. The rooms, service, ambience are just as wonderful as ever. The wine list is imaginative and well priced. Everyone is very kind, welcoming and engaging. Even our scruffy dog is happy there. The most wonderful surprise was the food. The restaurant has always been outstanding and remains so. The new team, however are producing really imaginative, light, bright, delicious food which puts a big grin on your face. We can't recommend Plas Bodegroes enough, the old friend has returned as before but with that exciting touch of pixie dust.

We have enjoyed staying at Plos Bodegroes several times in the past, and were delighted to hear it was reopening with a new chef / front of house couple under the previous owners guidance. We were not disappointed! As ever, it is a beautiful house and garden and we had a very comfortable room. The service was professional yet relaxed, and the food was amazing - beautifully presented, light, clever and delicious.Sitting on the garden terrace with pre-dinner drinks and then post-dinner coffee is always a treat.

Oh no, I thought as I discovered on our way there that the PB had just been taken over. To say we were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. The existing staff that make PB such a delight were still on hand, supplemented by new, engaged and motivated kitchen staff and management who wanted to build on PB's reputation not rip it down and start again. Wonderful: we will be back.

The style was very 'Noucelle Cuisine' which is less popular these days. Top chefs have moved away to a more robust, less complex style with natural flavours. At £49.00 before adding drinks we felt it did not represent good value. Service was delightful and efficient but the Sunday evening restaurant was quiet.

My husband, our daughter and I spent four very happy, relaxing and spoiling nights.Hotel quite delightful, extremely comfortable and nestled in secluded lovely grounds. The food was exceptional, far beyond expectation and as good as a top class London restaurant. The charming staff went out of their way to be helpful, courteous, and friendly and always with a smile. Our daughter's gluten and dairy free dietary requirements were dealt with effortlessly and to an equally high standard. We had a wonderful time and will definitely recommend the hotel and restaurant to anyone we meet, and hope to return again one day.

The food and facilities were excellent but we did not enjoy waiting 45 minutes for our order to betaken , especially as we had booked a particular time for our meal. For returning guests like us , a brief explanation of the ownership changes would help. Also , there needs to be clear evidence that someone is in charge of front of house- this was Gunna's great gift. We wish you well.

On arrrival we were greeted with exemplary courtesy and all the staff thereafter were obliging, helpful andfriendly. Our room was tastefully decorated and had a superb view of the gardens. We were gifted a two night stay at Plas Bodegroes by our daughter on the occasion of our 40th Wedding Anniversary. The reputation of this small romantic country hotel was well known to us and we were not disappointed. The food is utterly exquisite and the ambience and decor of the dining room exceptional. Incidentally, we would like to know the identity of the colour scheme. The grounds and the history of this lovely house all combine to make this an unforgettable experience. It might appear churlish to be critical but we have to say that our welcome on arrival was not as warm as we might have expected and, certainly, not up to the "croeso" we received from those who served us at dinner and breakfast. Likewise, our room, the junior suite, in terms of decor and furnishings did not come up to our expectations. Next time, and we certainly intend to return, we will try another room. Nevertheless, we left uplifted after our stay in this lovely part of North Wales having made new friends from Cricieth.

An ideal place to spend a quiet reflective time in comfort and beautiful gardens.Attention to detail and impeccable service from the staff was only matched by the excellent standards of cuisine. We would definitely put this on our top place to re-visit when in North Wales. If we have one issue (which did not affect our stay) the separate toilet in Room 8 suite was uncomfortably small; however, the entire suite was perfect.

There are two rooms kept free for allergy customers if I had reservedMy only comment for improvement would be the breakfast service ! Presentation of the cooked breakfast was poor ! All fried breakfast items were swimming in brown fat ! Tasted ok but didn't look that good
Response
Dear Mr Edwards, Thank you for your feedback. Although we do ask about bedding allergies etc when you book, and our acceptance of dogs is mentioned on our website and online booking page, we should perhaps also ask about pet fur allergy. I am sorry about the fat on your breakfast - although I do use rendered bacon fat to assist frying, I have always considered myself quite diligent in draining it off before plating. It seems I had an off morning, my apologies! With kind regards, Chris Chown

We stayed at Plas Bodegroes for one night whilst visiting several Welsh gardens over the May bank holiday. The hotel is a stunning country house that has been lovingly restored by the owners and surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. We enjoyed walking down the avenue of mature beech trees that were coming into leaf and viewing the Japanese cherries, tulips, wisteria all in their spring finest. We were lucky enough to have the comfortable twin room with views across the garden. The staff were most attentive and dinner was delicious. I can thoroughly recommend staying for the food alone however the charming gardens were a highlight for me and I look forward to seeing them again - maybe a week or two later when the wisteria would be out!

Originally we had not booked in for a meal, only accommodation, but last minute changes (i.e. 4.00pm) led us to request a table for two which thankfully was available. Grounds are beautiful even in late April with the best yet to come. We hope to return soon.

We really enjoyed our stay and were made to feel very welcome, including our daughter who was staying nearby and joined us for meals, including breakfast! The property is beautifully maintained and the garden a joy to behold.

Have stayed here a few times before and the quality of food never disappoints! The staff are very friendly and efficient. The only disappointment was that the "availability of Wifi in the rooms" is not strictly correct. We had problems of limited/no access to Wifi in a Superior Room (9) on the top floor. Also I had mentioned when confirming booking it was my Wife`s 65 Birthday so I might have expected a small gesture in recognition of this at dinner. But having said all that we would not hesitate in making a return visit.

We have stayed previously at Plas Bodegroes and again we were not disappointed with our fare. The food was excellent and the staff could not be more welcoming especially as far as we were concerned with their use of the Welsh language.

We had a lovely stay at Plas Bodegroes. The location is very good for visiting the local beaches and towns. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The grounds were perfect for walking our dogs on a crisp, sunny morning. The food was very good for both our evening meal and breakfast. I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.

Magnificent couple of nights for my wife's 60th birthday in this beautiful Georgian house and grounds with our 3 year old English Springer in tow. Impeccably clean with all the trimmings. Both of us were feeling a bit fragile and under the weather so couldn't fully appreciate the leisurely gourmet dinners.

As usual the restaurant was excellent standard. The staff were welcoming, pleasant, friendly, helpful and efficient, but not short of time to have a chat. The only down side was, we felt, that the room provided was not of the superior quality as previous. Thanks for a luxurious break.

Food was excellent but disappointed by the room in the attic and the tired appearance of the bathroom. On the plus side the welcome was warm and the service very attentive and friendly and it was great to revisit after 20 years. However the room was a letdown and given all the other great venues on offer in Wales needs an upgrade otherwise the gap in the overall offering will be too great.

Our stay at Plas Bodegroes was delightful. We went there as it had been recommended to us as a great place to stay with divine food, and we were not in any way disappointed! The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming and from the moment you arrive and you are made to feel totally at home. The room was very clean and comfortable with everything you could wish for. The food in the restaurant is outstanding and would put some Michelin starred restaurants to shame! It is unpretentious, well presented and full of flavour, and in our opinion extremely good value for money. The wine list offers good wines from around the world at sensible prices - another big plus for those that want a nice wine at a reasonable price to accompany excellent food. The restaurant was fully booked even mid-week so do book in advance if you don't want to be disappointed! We would have loved to have stayed another night, but rest assured we will definitely be back to enjoy another stay at this little jem!

We looked forward to our visit to plas bodegroes but left feeling let down. The accomodation was OK but the ensuite was a bit cramped for my 6ft 2ins height.the staff were excellent and coffee and bara brith on the verenda was a delight. However the evening meal was a let down. It was not bad enough to complain about but some of the combinations fought against each other eg the lamb and the devilled kidneys whilst other dishes were just too bland. It was only when finished our meal that we realised that there were no condiments on our table. If we had been allowed to season our own food we might have found it less bland.good points for an excellent breakfast and super helpful staff

We had high hopes for our meal here, knowing that the restaurant has a Michelin star.It was a birthday treat for me to dine here, and it didn’t disappoint in any way.The house is in beautiful grounds, beautifully kept. From the moment we arrived it was peaceful, quiet and luxurious and we were made very welcome indeed. Our room was pristinely clean and tidy and well equipped. The toilet rolls were quilted and we were provided with white fluffy bath robes, huge bath towels and a lovely bath and walk in shower. The bed was extremely comfortable, and our room was in the roof space, and had a sky-light, so that you could lay in bed and look at the sky or stars, with a remotely controlled blind if you wanted to shut out the light. We went down to dinner at our allotted time and had a drink in the bar whilst looking at the menus. The bar was warm and cosy, or we could have sat outside on the terrace, although it wasn’t quite warm enough for us.We were shown through to the restaurant when we had chosen our meals and wines, and this was clean and decorated in a lovely shade of blue. There was a level of chatter, not too noisy, but not to quiet either. Our food was fantastic.Every dish was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful and were there when you needed them without unnecessarily hovering.I had scallops, followed by breast of guinea fowl, with smoked guinea fowl sausage. To finish the meal I had the cheese selection which was absolutely lovely.I can’t think of anything that could have improved our overnight stay or the evening meal – and breakfast was also deserving of a Michelin star! There was a good selection, and as I wanted something lighter after the previous evening’s excesses I had smoked haddock with a perfectly poached egg on top. There wasn’t a hint of bone or a scrap of skin and it was all wonderfully cooked and served by lovely friendly staff.I would definitely recommend this place if you enjoy fine dining and a little bit of luxury – of course, it comes at a price, but you certainly get what you pay for!

We stayed just one night for a friends wedding locally in a junior suite. Our 14 year old daughter had her own bed set up in the living area and we had a beautiful, light, airey room separated by bathroom and toilet. It was perfect for what we wanted and we were only sad we didnt get to eat or see more of the place.Breakfast was lovely and the staff made our tired teenager a bacon sandwich which they delivered to our room so she didnt have to get up so early to have breakfast! The staff made a really special place truly memorable and we will definitely be back!

We had a beautifully designed and comfortable room, overlooking the immaculate lawn down to an avenue of trees, with a perfectly fitted and proportioned bathroom. Service was slick, genuine and welcoming but the stand out was the quality and flavours of our dinner each evening. Sometimes beautifully presented food fails to meet the expectation of its appearance; this was excellent on all fronts and across all courses and by far the best food we had eaten for a long while.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. Set in delightful mature gardens, this hotel feels more like a country house retreat. The service is excellent, the food lovely, and the rooms relaxing. To help achieve perfection it would have been great to have WiFi (it may have been there but I couldn't pick it up), and the breakfast room would benefit from a little bit of background music (it did feel that others were sitting quietly listening to our discussion!)

We arrived 27th May and were shown to our junior suite. The room was beautifully appointed with what was obviously a new bathroom. We stayed for 2 nights and each night were treated to a delicious 3 course dinner with changes to the menu each evening. The wine list was extensive and was reasonably priced. Breakfast was just as delicious and again the menu changed each day.The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout whether it was for breakfast or dinner. Special mention to Julia who we had a chat to after dinner our 2nd night and at check out.Excellent grounds/gardens and perfect location for walks in the Llyn Penninsular. The hotel itself was meticulous in detail with artworks by local artists and not a scuff mark in sight. If ever there was a hotel to give a mark of 10, this is it.
